More History

The Calling-in-Bell
"Brethren Live Together in Unity" is the inscription on the bell.
The bell was used to call inmates from work, for head counts, and
to announce if there was an escape.
The bell was cast in New York in 1895. Because of its size it was
actually shipped by sea via Cape Horn!
At one point this prized possession was "kidnapped" by the staff
of the Matsqui Institution - but it was recaptured a few days
later by the Pen staff! |
